Russia halts gas supplies to Finland
Finnish state-owned energy firm, Gasum has confirmed that Russia no longer supplies Finland natural gas.
This follows the sanctioned Russia by EU and US amid ongoing war.
Russia stated that countries who are against them in the war must pay for gas in Russian currency.
Finland however insisted it will not pay for its gas supplies in roubles.
Along with Sweden, Finland had also applied to join the western Transatlantic military alliance, NATO earlier in the week.
Russia already stopped electricity supplies to Finland and threatened retaliation if Finland apply to join Nato.
Gasum CEO Mika Wiljanen revealed in a statement that “It is highly regrettable that natural gas supplies under our supply contract will now be halted.
“However, we have been carefully preparing for this situation and provided that there will be no disruptions in the gas transmission network, we will be able to supply all our customers with gas in the coming months.
