Russia accuses Ukraine of failed drone attack on Putin's residence

Russia has accused Ukraine of attempting to assassinate President Vladimir Putin in a drone attack that failed, according to a report by The New York Post.

Moscow stated that Ukrainian forces targeted the Kremlin with two unmanned drones overnight, but were taken down by the military. Video footage allegedly shows a bright explosion over the complex that houses Putin’s residence.

Russian officials confirmed that there were no casualties and Putin was not present at the time.

The Kremlin stated that the drones were disabled by state security services, and debris fell on the ground without causing any damage or casualties.

Putin’s Victory Day celebrations are scheduled for May 9th, and the Kremlin considers the incident a deliberate attempt on the president’s life.

The statement said: “Two unmanned aerial vehicles were aimed at the Kremlin. As a result of timely actions taken by the military and special services with the use of radar warfare systems, the devices were put out of action.

“We regard these actions as a planned terrorist act and an attempt on the president’s life, carried out on the eve of Victory Day, the May 9 Parade, at which the presence of foreign guests is also planned.

“The Russian side reserves the right to take retaliatory measures where and when it sees fit.”

However, a senior official from Ukraine’s President’s Office has denied any involvement in the alleged attack.
