Recently, the school management of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic (Ondo Polytechnic) had directed that only students who have paid their school fees should be allowed to write the ongoing examination of the institution.

From our source, one of the reason of the the new policy was enacted was because The school was closed for over two months last year over non payment of salary of the institution’s workers.

Students thought the new policy wouldn’t be effective until yesterday’ Monday, 2018 when when students who are yet to pay their fees were sent out of the examination hall. The students were told to forget the examination if they won’t pay their school fees.

Consequently, the angry students stormed the Akure/Benin expressway, preventing vehicular movement for over an hour. As if that was not enough, some students also went to the polytechnic’s ICT centers and destroyed properties worth thousands of millions.

However, the security immediately, took necessary action before peace was restored in the campus.

When the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) Owo chapter Mr. Rafiu Ijawoye was to comment on the issue, he condemned the students action. He emphasized that students right in the school doesn’t cover writing examination without payment of school fees.

He called on ASUP members of the Polytechnic (Ondo Poly Chapter) to stop every academic activity till the issue is resolved.
