Rotimi Amaechi Expresses Disappointment In 2023 Elections (SEE DETAILS)

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has expressed his disappointment with the conduct of the recent elections in Nigeria, particularly in Rivers State.

Speaking after casting his ballot in Ubima, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State on Saturday, Amaechi criticized the declaration of 27 opposition politicians as wanted by the state governor, Nyesom Wike. He stated that the governor has no power to declare anybody wanted and faulted the directive.

Amaechi also alleged the involvement of the police in arresting members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and accused the Inspector-General of Police of not taking action. He claimed that there is a complete failure of governance in the country, as people are being arrested and nobody is doing anything about it.

Furthermore, Amaechi expressed his concerns over voter apathy and the authenticity of result sheets in some areas. He stated that there is a lack of confidence in the electoral process, as people are scared to come out and vote due to the prevailing atmosphere of violence and insecurity.

In addition, Amaechi criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), stating that although people commended INEC at the beginning of the elections on February 11, the election turned out to be one of the worst in the history of Nigeria. He alleged that result sheets in some areas were fake, and although he did not have evidence to prove it, he stated that efforts had to be made to ensure that there was no violence.

When asked about his advice to the Federal Government and INEC, Amaechi replied that he had spoken to everybody concerned on this issue before the election and had nothing further to say. He also disclosed that those who opposed the reappointment of the INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, were members of the camp of former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu.

In conclusion, Amaechi’s statements reflect the current state of the electoral process in Nigeria, which has been plagued by violence, insecurity, and voter apathy. While some progress has been made, much more needs to be done to ensure a free, fair, and credible electoral process in the country.
