Ronaldo's sister trolls Messi again after 8th Ballon d'Or

Katia Aveiro versus Lionel Messi perhaps is a football rivalry that the world was denied of simply for reasons nature holds close to heart. Either way, that hasn’t stopped the famous Cristiano Ronaldo sister from throwing out jibes at the Argentine when the opportunity comes her way.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister, Katia Aveiro, seemed to take a subtle dig at Lionel Messi following his recent Ballon d’Or win, as the Argentine secured his record-breaking eighth trophy during a ceremony in Paris this week.

Messi’s latest accolade came after leading his national team to victory in the 2022 Qatar World Cup, solidifying his place as one of football’s all-time greats.

Messi‘s triumph widened the gap between him and his old rival Ronaldo, who had won five Ballon d’Or awards in the past. While many celebrated Messi’s remarkable achievement, there were also voices suggesting that he may not have deserved the honor.

In a social media post, Katia Aveiro, a 46-year-old Portuguese pop singer, appeared to align with those who believe Ronaldo’s awards were more deserved.

The post, shared on a platform formerly known as Twitter, featured a picture of the 38-year-old Ronaldo surrounded by his numerous personal honors, including three UEFA Men’s Player of the Year awards, four European Golden Shoes, and five Ballon d’Ors.

The caption accompanying the image read, ‘Earned, not given.’ Aveiro not only liked this post but also added her endorsement with five clapping emojis.

This isn’t the first time Katia Aveiro has waded into the realm of modern football’s ongoing debates. In the past, she made headlines by labeling the 2022 World Cup as ‘the worst ever’ in a dramatic social media post.

She initially criticized the tournament, stating, ‘The worst World Cup of all time,’ but later praised the victorious South American side, Argentina, for providing a thrilling final match.

She exclaimed, ‘What a match. Congratulations to Argentina.’

Katia Aveiro hasn’t been shy of expressing her opinions online, and most recently even urged the 5 time Ballon d’Or winner to leave the World Cup and return to a place where he was appreciated following his relegation to Portugal’s bench during the World Cup tournament.
