Ronaldo wants to best Messi, hence why he is leaving United
If there has ever been any debate that has been more divisive than any political argument, it has to be the debate on who is better between Messi and Ronaldo.
The argument has spawned so many narratives, punditry opinions and controversies, and now with Cristiano Ronaldo wanting out of Manchester United, same debate has been brought up once again.
5 time golden ball winner, Cristiano Ronaldo set the internet space on fire when reports came that he had dropped a transfer request to the board on wanting out of the club.
The report created controversies, one of which a former Chelsea star, Tony Cascarino joined in on the debate.
The former Blues man explains that the Portuguese is leaving because of the Argentine player who now plays for Paris Saint Germain.
Cascarino is of the opinion that the Manchester United number 7 is looking for UEFA Champions League football, and not just because of its marketing but because he is worried that the former Barcelona legend will usurp him as the tournament’s top scorer.
The Chelsea legend argues that what drives the former Juventus player is to become the greatest goal scorer of all time in the tournament, something he can’t get playing the EUROPA.
“Ronaldo is a player, as always, that has an ego.” He said, speaking to talkSport.
“A lot of it is about him, but the teams he’s played in have been successful, so you always go with that as a team player.
“Great, he scores goals; he gets the accolades; he’s one of the greatest that has ever played the game. You can have all that, and that is fine, as long as you are winning,
“When you don’t win, now you have got a problem. I said to you off-air, I’m a bit suspicious because he has scored 141 goals in the Champions League.
“Messi has got 125. He doesn’t want to not play Champions League football because he wants to be the greatest Champions League goal scorer of all time, and that is how Ronaldo is made.”
It’s highly unlikely that the thing driving CR7 out of Manchester United is Messi, but Cascarino’s thoughts prove that the Messi-Ronaldo debate isn’t ending any time soon.
