Ronaldo loves the Champions League—Lille Defender on CR7 staying
Having Ronaldo in your team, brings in a lot of publicity and public opinion, and having the team not make the Champions League while he is in the team, it spells calamity.
The question has always being asked, even right after Cristiano Ronaldo played his very first match in Man United colors; what happens if the Old Trafford club does not make the Champions League?
Will the Portuguese be okay with playing Europa League football instead of the Champions League? Will he stay or consider leaving?
Even with United having a new manager in Erik Ten Hag, the question still remains the same, and now, Lille defender, Jose Fonte has come into the debate to lend his opinion.
The defender believes the 5 time Ballon d’or winner would be very much open to new challenge amid reported interests from Chelsea.
The reports claim the former Real Madrid star is unsettled at the club after it failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League this coming campaign.
It is even made worse as the club has acted fast to bring in signings even with the transfer window open.
With reports that his agent, Jorge Mendes held talks with a number of clubs like Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, it looks likely that the star could move from the club.
Manchester United though, have repeatedly claimed their star attacker is not for sale.
Speaking on talkSPORT, Fonte gave his own verdict on the transfer saga:
“He is the Champions League man, so there is always that possibility. One thing that he has always mentioned is that he loves to play in the Champions League, and unfortunately, they (Manchester United) did not qualify.
“I don’t know what he has in his head, only he knows. What I do know is that he loves the Champions League. He is a Champions League player, and he wants to perform in that competition.” He adds.
