Professional football club based in Turin, Juventus has clinched the Italian Serie A title with two games to the end of the season following a 2-0 win over ten-men Sampdoria at the Olympic stadium, thanks to goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Federico Bernardeschi.

The latest triumph is Juventus’ ninth consecutive league title, making the Turin-based side the only team to ever achieve the feat in any of Europe’s top five leagues.

It is also Juventus’ 36th official scudetto title, extending their record as the most successful Serie A club. The league title is Mauricio Sarri, Juventus manager’s first league title of his managerial career, becoming the oldest manager to win the Serie A title.

The win against Sampdoria means the Old Lady of Turin have amassed 83 points with two games to the end of the season, giving them an unassailable seven-point lead over second-placed Inter Milan.

Juventus had won only once in five games — including two defeats — and they had Ronaldo to thank for changing the statistic.

The Portuguese scored deep into first half added time as his well taken shot from Miralem Pjanic’s expertly worked free kick found the bottom corner of the net.

It was Ronaldo’s 31st league goal of the season, equalling Gonzalo Higuain, his Argentine teammate’s record set last season. The former Real Madrid talisman missed a penalty kick late in the game, hitting the crossbar, but his contributions on the night and throughout the season were enough to win the league title — the seventh of his career.
