Romelu Lukaku To Return To Chelsea -- Inter Milan CEO Says

Inter Milan CEO Beppe Marotta has confirmed that Romelu Lukaku will return to Chelsea when his season-long loan deal expires at the end of the current campaign. Lukaku initially joined Chelsea in 2011, where he scored 17 goals in 35 appearances before moving on to Everton, Manchester United, and finally Inter Milan.

Lukaku played a pivotal role in Inter Milan’s Scudetto-winning campaign in 2020-2021, but has struggled to replicate that form this season, scoring only five goals in 17 appearances due to fitness issues.

Marotta has acknowledged that Lukaku has yet to regain the form that made him a star player in the past and noted that his struggles are likely related to the World Cup, which has also affected other players in the league.

“The loan was for one season so on June 30 regardless of how well he plays, he’ll go back to Chelsea,” Marotta told Sky Italia.

“This has been an unprecedented season. I’m referring of course to the World Cup. The problems we’ve experienced have been experienced by other clubs too and the players who played at the World Cup.

“Lukaku is a case in point. [Marcelo] Brozovic isn’t the Brozovic we know. Lukaku hasn’t found the fitness he needs to play his best football. He’s still not at his best or the player we got to see in years gone by.”

Despite his dip in form, Chelsea reportedly remains eager to bring Romelu Lukaku back to Stamford Bridge. Marotta has confirmed that the loan deal was only for one season, and Lukaku will return to Chelsea regardless of his performances this season.

The Belgian striker’s return to Chelsea could provide a significant boost to the team’s attack, which has struggled to score goals this season. Lukaku’s success at the club in the past, coupled with his impressive goal-scoring record in Europe, make him an attractive signing for Chelsea.

With Lukaku set to return to Chelsea in the summer, the club will hope that he can rediscover his form and help lead them to a Premier League title challenge next season.

Romelu Lukaku returning to Chelsea would be a mixed reception from the Blues’ fan base owing to how things were left sour last season with the Belgian being hugely critical of former manager, Thomas Tuchel.
