Rogue tackle deals Chelsea an injury blow

Chelsea may have won the war against Leeds, but they most certainly lost the battle as relegation threatened Leeds United ensure both sides have something to think about the game.

It was a 3-0 win that the blue side of London will take with open palms as for the first time in a while, it sees them receiving 3 maximum points to keep them safe from the chasing pack in Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur as all 3 London clubs chase for Champions League places.

But the win though leaves a sour taste as Blues midfielder, Mateo Kovacic was forced off injured in the first half.

The Chelsea midfielder had to be taken off in the Wednesday clash with Leeds United after the Croatian was victim to a horror tackle from ex-Man United player, Daniel James, as he had to be replaced by Loftus Cheek in the 30th minute of game play.

The horror tackle saw the Leeds United forward given his marching orders by the referee as he was shown a straight red while his team were a goal down in the opening half.

“If we did not have the major injury to Mateo Kovacic, it would have been close to a perfect evening,” Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel admitted,. “It was a very strong performance from the start.” He added.

On the injury, the Chelsea boss said, “It looks swollen and painful. It’s the same ankle he had injured already. It doesn’t look good.”

With such statements like that, it appears the Chelsea player looks set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines. The injury comes when Chelsea days before the FA Cup final against Liverpool.
