Rodri under fire over post-match interview

Manchester City star, Rodri comes under fire over his reaction to his team’s exit from the Champions League.

Manchester City suffered a heartbreaking exit from the Champions League after a tense quarter-final clash against Real Madrid ended in a 4-4 aggregate draw, with the Spanish giants emerging victorious in a penalty shootout.

Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid side managed to secure a 4-3 win on penalties, despite Kevin De Bruyne’s 76th-minute goal cancelling out Rodrygo’s opener during the Etihad fixture.

The match witnessed a moment of high drama when Luka Modric’s penalty was saved by City’s goalkeeper, Ederson. However, online spectators were quick to attribute a stroke of tactical brilliance to Modric’s miss, describing it as a display of ‘1000 IQ.’

As Mateo Kovacic and Bernardo Silva faltered from the spot for the Blues, Real Madrid sealed their spot in the next round of the competition.

Following the defeat, Manchester City midfielder Rodri faced criticism for his post-match comments, deemed by many as ‘arrogant.’

Speaking to the press, Rodri expressed his frustration, saying,

“I saw only one team today, to be honest. They defended and they knew how to suffer, and we know how tough Real Madrid is. But, in my opinion, we should go through, in terms of chances and everything. It’s the trickiness of the competition. They know how to play, congratulations to them.”

Fans took to social media to voice their disapproval of Rodri’s remarks, with one user criticizing the “arrogance of these possession-heavy sides,” while another accused him of “pretension.”

This is not the first time Rodri has faced backlash for his post-match comments. He drew similar criticism after a Euro qualifier match where Scotland defeated Spain.

Rodri, who graduated from Atletico Madrid’s academy, has found himself at the center of controversy once again, with fans questioning his attitude towards defeat and sportsmanship.
