Robert Lewandowski wants everyone to forget the 8-2 thing
Remember the 8-2 fiasco against Barcelona that Robert Lewandowski was a part of for Bayern Munich?
Shh…don’t say it out loud to the listening of Barcelona fans because Lewandowski wants everyone to forget about it. It’s all past tense, the lethal striker muses.
Although we know deep down he is struggling to hold down his laughter, and we all know his best pal at Bayern Munich, Thomas Muller would be calling on him time and again to have a laugh about it with him.
But for now, Robert Lewandowski wants to play devil’s advocate and keep a straight face so no one would troll his new club, Barcelona about the 8-2 thing.
“I have to admit that we haven’t spoken about it,” Lewandowski said with a straight face.
“That’s in the past and it’s best to not look back. That’s our way of thinking.”
For the Poland international, what he wants to think of and wants everyone to keep in mind is the journey towards the future with him at Barcelona.
“If you play for Barcelona, you always think about winning titles, but things have to go step by step,” He said.
“With our potential, we can be up there and fight. This season will go better than last.”
On trying to acclimatize with his teammates and everyone easing his process into the team, the former Borussia Dortmund star said:
“From the first day they [the Barcelona players] try to make things easier for me. That’s a lot for me. I have to adapt to the team,” Lewandowski said.
“I try to do my best. The most important thing is what we do as a team. I never say a figure of how many I want to score. The most important thing is what I do with the team and for the team.
“I always have it in my head to win the game and score the goal. It doesn’t matter the game or the opponent. I’m always hungry to win.
“There is great potential in this team. We all have to go together step by step.”
Following his arrival at the club, questions inevitably were asked about his relationship with Pep Guardiola who managed the Polish striker for two seasons at Bayern.
“I talked a lot with him [Guardiola] about tactics,” He said.
“After that, it’s easier to adapt to any system. He changed my way of seeing football, of understanding it.
“For me it’s not difficult to find solutions on the pitch because I’ve had great coaches. I think thanks to him it should be easier to adapt to what Xavi [Hernandez] asks.”
No matter how Lewandowski tries to hide the fact he participated in the 8-2 demolition of Barcelona, history still remembers it.
