Robert Lewandowski: I have no regrets but…

Barcelona new signing, Robert Lewandowski may receive all the backlash and banter for leaving Bayern Munich by its fans, to him he doesn’t really consider it a regret.

The Poland international always wanted to play in the La Liga and when the opportunity came for him, he knew he had to take it no matter what, although he feels things could have gone better.

Speaking after the friendly game against Mexican side, Pumas in the Joan Gamper Trophy, he revealed he wasn’t quite happy in the manner he left Bayern Munich.

The lethal attacker recognizes he hurt a lot of fans in the way he left the club and used the medium to apologize to the Bayern fan base.

The former Dortmund star said:

“I know that hurt a lot of fans. I can understand that and now I just apologize for that. At that time it was important and necessary for me to make it clear that I was ready for a change.

“At the end of the day, we are all human. After 12 years in Germany, it was clear to me that my time was over. I wanted to make that clear, and of course it was not easy for Bayern to accept a sale during this phase.

“It was a difficult situation for everyone involved and we had to find the best solution. I needed this change, this move to another country, to another club. I feel like a child who has a new toy.”

Speaking in reaction to the Hala Madrid banter, Robert Lewandowski revealed he found it quite funny and hilarious as it came from the Bayern Munich fan base when he returned to pick his things at Munich.

“Yes, I heard that, and I laughed,” he mused.

Lewandowski then went on to reveal, there were quite some fans who welcomed him back and had quite the kind words for him.

“But there were also some people shouting my name. That was really nice. In the last few weeks I have also met some fans in the street who have expressed their understanding for my situation and wished me all the best.”

On his move to the La Liga and to Barcelona, the Poland international revealed:

“I always wanted to play in LaLiga that was clear to me. And when Barcelona came knocking on the door this time, they were the only option for me. There were other offers, but I wasn’t interested.”
