Rivers cultists clash, family in tears over missing son

On Sunday, youths suspected to be cultists, caused mayhem at the Diobu waterfront in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, destroying parked cars and other property, while also shooting indiscriminately, TopNaija reports.

It was learnt that the clash caused panic in the area and forced residents of Obidianso, Nwachukwu, Anozie, Echue, Ukwato, Timber and Okwelle to take refuge in their homes.

It was gathered that the Diobu Vigilantes arrested one of the suspects, identified as Yemiari Brown, aka School Boy, and recovered an AK-47 rifle from the scene and handed over the suspect and the firearm to the Eagle Crack Unit attached to the Mile One Police Division.

Confirming the development, the Chairman, Diobu Vigilantes, Amatari Bipelede, on Tuesday posted on his official Facebook page how his men apprehend one of the suspects and handed him over to the police.

He wrote, “Diobu (Vigilante) Security Services today Monday 6th of September 2020 recovered one AK-47 at Okwelle Waterfront, Mile 2, Diobu, Port Harcourt, which was handed over to the E Crack Commander.

“Sunday was like a nightmare in most of the waterfronts like Obidianso, Nwachukwu, Anozie, Echue, Ukwatu, Timber, Okwelle etc, as two cult groups by name Lamedian & Foundation all in Degbam were fighting carrying arms, shooting, breaking windscreen of car’s pack on their.

“Diobu (Vigilante) under intelligent gathering swung into action & apprehended one School Boy who in return gave us names like Augustine and Doctor, we recovered the said AK 47 with a double magazine (cartridges) which we handed over to the E Crack Commander. Let God take all the glory.”

But a sibling of Yemiari, who identified himself as Daniel Manfred, reported that following the incident and the arrest of his brother, he had gone to several police stations in Diobu in search of him, but could not find the suspect.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, did not take his calls and he had yet to reply to an SMS as of the time of filing this report.
