Rivers Crisis: Why Tinubu Intervened

In a decisive move to address burgeoning political crises in various states, President Bola Tinubu has stepped in to prevent potential escalation, drawing both praise and criticism for his interventions.

The Presidency, responding to observations that Tinubu’s actions were undermining state governments, defended the President’s involvement as crucial in maintaining stability. According to Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu’s media adviser, these interventions were deemed necessary to avert situations that could spiral into nationwide chaos.

In a recent appearance on Channels Television’s News Night, Ngelale emphasized the President’s responsibility as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to ensure the safety of Nigerian citizens.

He highlighted Tinubu’s commitment to intervening in states embroiled in political turmoil if it posed a threat to the country at large.

“When a political crisis begins to pose a threat of manmade insecurity, the President cannot afford to remain passive,” Ngelale stated.

“His primary objective is to guarantee a stable environment for Nigerians, and stepping in to avert potential national instability was a wise decision.”

The statement from the presidential aide clarified that Tinubu’s interventions were aimed at preventing the destabilization of regions or states, ensuring the safety and security of the populace.
