Rihanna, Lupita Nyong’o to star in a tweet-inspired film
Tha Queens!

In what might be one of the biggest stories to come out of the Cannes Film Festival, Entertainment Weekly reports that Netflix has landed a project that will star Rihanna and Lupita Nyong’o in a story based on a viral meme.

Yeah. Remember this picture?

The concept originates from a photo of the two celebrities back in 2014 at the Miu Miu show during Paris Fashion Week.

Soon after, the photo inspired comments on Tumblr that proposed a heist movie in which Rihanna and Nyong’o scam the rich out of their money:

Twitter users went so far as to ask for DuVernay (who is in post-production on A Wrinkle in Time for Disney) to direct, with Rae (whose second season of HBO’s Insecure will debut on July 23) to write.

Soon after, all four women pledged their support to the project on the social media platform.

Then Lupita tweeted at Rihanna

And guess RiRi’s response.

Sources say Issa Rae is already working on the script and the studio is eyeing a production start of 2018 after DuVernay completes her current film.
