Red would look good on Kovacic -- Glen Johnson tells Klopp

Former Liverpool player Glen Johnson has advised current manager Jurgen Klopp to sign Mateo Kovacic if Chelsea decides to sell the Croatian midfielder in the summer. Johnson, who has played for both Liverpool and Chelsea, believes Kovacic would be an excellent addition to the Liverpool squad.

There have been reports linking the Reds to the 28-year-old, and Manchester City and Bayern Munich, who are now managed by former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, are also said to be interested in the midfielder. Kovacic’s contract with Chelsea will expire in the summer of 2024.

According to Johnson, Kovacic is an underrated player at Stamford Bridge and would fit well in Klopp’s system. He said, “Mateo Kovacic is a top-class player so the interest is no surprise. If he leaves Chelsea, he would suit Liverpool very well. Jurgen Klopp will love the way he plays.”

Chelsea has reportedly listed eight of their top players for sale, with Kovacic among those likely to leave Stamford Bridge this summer. The Croatian international has impressed since joining Chelsea from Real Madrid, and his departure would be a significant loss for the club.

Kovacic has made 36 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions this season, scoring one goal and providing one assist. He has been a regular feature in Thomas Tuchel’s squad, helping the team reach the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League and secure a top-four finish in the Premier League.
