Real reason Lionel Messi is moving to Miami

In a surprising turn of events, Major League Soccer (MLS) team Inter Miami has emerged as the frontrunner to secure the signature of football superstar Lionel Messi this summer. ESPN has reported that negotiations have taken place, revealing intriguing details of the potential transfer.

According to sources, the deal being discussed includes the option for Inter Miami to obtain part-ownership of the club.

This agreement mirrors a previous arrangement made with David Beckham, now a co-owner of Inter Miami, during his time with the LA Galaxy. Beckham had the opportunity to purchase an MLS team at a discounted price of $25 million, a privilege that Messi’s deal may also entail.

Furthermore, the MLS is said to be prepared to subsidize Messi’s transfer, a move reminiscent of the support provided to Beckham back in 2007. To enhance the financial package, discussions have included a share of the revenue generated by new subscribers to Apple TV’s MLS Season Pass streaming service.

It is important to note that any potential partnership involving Messi and sportswear giant Adidas would remain a separate arrangement between the player and the company. The involvement of Adidas in the negotiations would not directly impact the MLS.

The news of Messi’s potential move to Inter Miami comes after months of speculation surrounding his future.

While a return to his beloved Barcelona, where he established himself as one of the greatest players in the club’s history, seemed a possibility, Lionel Messi confirmed in an interview with Mundo Deportivo that he decided against it to avoid burdening the LaLiga champions financially.

Messi expressed his initial eagerness to return to Barcelona but cited his previous departure as a factor in his decision-making process. He revealed that despite hearing that La Liga had accepted his return and everything appeared favorable, there were additional factors at play.

Reports indicated that Barcelona would need to offload players and reduce salaries, circumstances that Messi did not want to go through again.

As a result, the 35-year-old Argentine icon turned his attention towards Inter Miami and the enticing prospect of playing in the MLS. The potential move would mark an exciting new chapter in Messi’s illustrious career and present him with fresh challenges in the United States.

“I really wanted to return, I was very excited to be able to return, but, on the other hand, after having experienced what I experienced when I left, I didn’t want to be in the same situation again.

“Although I heard that La Liga had accepted my return and everything was fine, many other things also needed to happen.

“I heard that Barça needed to sell players and reduce salaries, I didn’t want to go through all of that.”

With negotiations ongoing and fans eagerly awaiting a final decision, the football world remains captivated by the prospect of Messi donning the Inter Miami jersey and gracing the MLS stage.
