Real Madrid facing serious allegations from Getafe

Real Madrid may be about to loose their place in the Champions League spot if Getafe wins its allegations against the Los Blancos.

Real Madrid’s recent victory against Getafe has come under scrutiny, with their opponents lodging a formal complaint over an alleged illegal substitution. The complaint has raised the possibility of Real Madrid facing a points deduction.

In the match held at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday, Real Madrid secured a 1-0 win over Getafe, with Marco Asensio scoring the decisive goal in the 70th minute.

However, a contentious moment during the late stages of the game has prompted Getafe to take action. In the 84th minute, Asensio was being replaced by defender Alvaro Odriozola, as Real sought to strengthen their defense.

Asensio left the pitch and exchanged handshakes with Odriozola, who swiftly entered the field and assumed his position. However, video footage from the match revealed that France international Eduardo Camavinga had requested to be substituted due to a severe injury.

Camavinga was subsequently replaced, but Asensio remained on the field, and Odriozola also continued playing as Real Madrid’s fifth and final substitute.

The referee for the fixture, Juan Martínez Munuera, did not raise any objections to the substitution.

Getafe, however, believes that the substitution was ineligible since Odriozola was already on the pitch. According to the laws of the game, “the substitution is completed when a substitute enters the field of play; from that moment, the replaced player becomes a substituted player.”

Considering Getafe’s precarious position in the relegation zone, they have taken the matter seriously and officially lodged a complaint with the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). Real Madrid now has three days to respond, while the Competition Committee evaluates the situation.

If Getafe’s claim proves successful, they would be awarded a 3-0 victory, and Real Madrid could face a fine ranging from €6,001 to €9,000. Currently, Getafe sits 18th in the Spanish top flight, just one point away from safety, with only four games remaining.

Real Madrid, on the other hand, edged past rivals Atletico Madrid with the narrow victory, but if the result is reversed due to the controversy, they would drop back to third place in the league standings.

As the situation unfolds, both clubs and football authorities await the decision of the Competition Committee, which will determine the consequences for Real Madrid and the potential impact on the league standings.
