Raphael Varane becomes flop if he fails to perform--William Gallas

Raphael Varane becomes a flop if he fails to perform in the Premier League this season, former Chelsea and Arsenal defender, William Gallas says in respect to former Real Madrid player who Manchester United signed last season.

In William Gallas’ analysis, he claims the Frenchman will hope to silence his critics this season as all focus would be on his performance this season after a torrid start in the prior season.

Raphael Varane joined the Old Trafford club from Real Madrid in a £41 million move last summer, with his season filled with quite the underwhelming performance compared to his standards at Real Madrid.

Part of the France World Cup winner’s struggle was fitness and consistency that were met with a lot of criticism, which according to William Gallas, he would have no excuse from if he fails to prove his quality this season.

“Raphael Varane. He was criticized a lot last season because he didn’t perform, but I wasn’t too hard on him because I know how difficult it is to come to the Premier League and to also settle in a new country. I always say that foreign players need a year to adjust.

“So this season, if Raphael doesn’t perform, that means that the Premier League was not for him. It is that simple. This season he has to prove his quality.

“He has to prove to everyone that he is one of the best defenders in the world and return to that player he was a few years ago,

“Everyone expects so much from him – he won everything there was to win at Real Madrid, he won a World Cup. This season he can have no excuses. He has to perform. He has to show his character and he has to be the leader of the Manchester United defence.” He added.

In his words, Gallas is of the opinion that Raphael Varane becomes a flop if he fails to improve his standards at Manchester.
