Racism: It gets worse for Vinicius Jr in the La Liga

The ‘Monkey’ chants on Vinicius Jr just won’t go away, and this time, such chants coming from a child makes things more embarrassing for the Spanish La Liga.

Racism takes a hard turn on Real Madrid star, Vinicius Jr in the La Liga who now has to deal with the latest uproar of ‘hate’ from a child fan.

According to reports, the Spanish La Liga has initiated an investigation after reports came up about a child allegedly making a racist comment directed at the Real Madrid icon during their recent match against Valencia, which ended in a 2-2 draw on Saturday, March 2.

The Brazilian forward marked his return to the Mestalla Stadium with two goals, but the joy of his performance was marred by the emergence of a video online allegedly showing a child directing a racial slur, calling Vinicius a monkey.

According to sources from The Athletic, the incident prompted La Liga to delve deeper into the matter. The video, captured by a spectator, reportedly led to the involvement of law enforcement during the game. However, the exact timing of the incident remains unclear.

This isn’t the first time Vinicius has been subjected to racial abuse at the Mestalla Stadium. In a match against Valencia in May 2023, he was targeted by monkey chants, which led to Valencia being fined £39,000 and instructed to close part of their stadium for five matches.

Following the earlier incident, Vinicius expressed his frustration with the prevalence of racism in La Liga. He criticized the league, the federation, and opponents for what he perceived as tacit acceptance and encouragement of such behavior.

Vinicius lamented,

“It wasn’t the first time, nor the second, nor the third. Racism is normal in La Liga… The championship that once belonged to Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Cristiano, and Messi today belongs to racists.”
