While many strive to be famous so as to show off their wealth and oppress the needy, for the fast-rising singer, Babatunde Lawal popularly known as Toobright Sings, the reverse is the case. In a chat with Saturday Beats, the Lagos State University undergraduate said the main reason he is into music is to achieve fame and help the underprivileged in the society.

“Despite the fact that I love music, one of the major reasons for venturing into the entertainment world is to succeed and become famous and when I do, I want to use my fame to affect lives positively and change my society with songs that will impact them positively. I would also reach out to the needy and underprivileged in the society. As for the upcoming acts that I can help out, I would make sure I empower them,” he said.

The young lad told Saturday Beats that his passion for music-making began as a child but it took a while to convince his father to accept his career choice. “I discovered my talent during childhood when I found out that singing and composing songs was something I loved to do. Also, whenever anyone heard me sing, I got positive remarks about my nice voice. At first, my dad needed some convictions about my music and there were times he would ask if I really wanted to do music so that he would not waste money on school fees. My parents are the type that would support you but you have to get a degree with good grades. Sometimes he complained about me disturbing with the stereo while rehearsing,” he said.

Speaking on some of his major influences in the industry, he named the likes of King Sunny Ade and GT Da Guitarman among others. “I get inspired by people like King Sunny Ade, Ebenezer Obey, Tuface Idibia, Banky W, Timi Dakolo, GT Da Guitarman, to mention a few. Someday, I would also sing an evergreen song like them. I learn a lot from their songs,” Lawal said.

The young man is leaving no stone unturned to see himself up there in a jiffy. He already has a song enjoying massive airplay on radio stations across the state. “I have some songs to my credit. My latest song titled, ‘Baba Gbo,’ is an inspirational song reminding God to hear and answer our prayer and it currently enjoys massive airplay,” he said.
