Queen Tobi Phillips speaks after being trolled for not speaking Yoruba in her videos (Watch)
Queen Tobi Phillips, one of the esteemed wives of the highly respected Yoruba monarch, the Ooni of Ife, has broken her silence on social media regarding the criticism she has faced for not speaking Yoruba in her videos.
Taking to her Instagram page, the former beauty queen confronted her detractors and proved her linguistic abilities by sharing a video of herself fluently speaking Yoruba during an interview with BBC Yoruba.
In her caption, Queen Tobi acknowledged the relentless trolling she has endured and explained that although Yoruba is not her default language, she ensures that whenever she speaks it, she does so with the proper tone and fluency.
By showcasing her command of the language, she aimed to put an end to the criticisms and show her dedication to preserving the cultural heritage associated with the Yoruba people.
“Good morning fam, I hope your day is off to a great start. This is for those who have been trying to troll me about speaking Yoruba in my previous videos.
I may not speak Yoruba as my default language, but best believe that whenever I do, I make sure to speak it with the right tone.” She wrote.
