PSG must end Soap Opera relationship with Mbappe

In what has become an enduring saga, the relationship between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and their star player Kylian Mbappe has reached a breaking point.

The talented French forward, often touted as the best player in the world, has become more trouble than he’s worth for the club, leading to growing speculation about his potential departure.

Leonardo, the former sporting director of PSG who worked closely with Mbappe for three seasons before being sacked last summer, has finally come to the realization that Mbappe’s ego has become too significant for Parc des Princes.

Speaking to L’Equipe, Leonardo expressed his belief that it is now time for Mbappe to part ways with the club, emphasizing that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) existed before him and will continue to exist after him.

The Brazilian executive’s change of heart raises questions as to why it took so long for the club to recognize the implications of indulging Mbappe’s every request. This leniency, according to Leonardo, created a monster within the player.

This sentiment echoes former France international Christopher Dugarry’s concerns four years ago when he predicted that Mbappe’s attitude and sense of entitlement could lead to complications at PSG.

Mbappe’s clashes with Neymar, particularly their infamous penalty dispute during a match against Montpellier, exacerbated tensions within the PSG dressing room last season.

The young forward’s frustration with the club extended beyond on-field incidents, as he publicly criticized PSG’s recruitment and blamed it for their Champions League failures.

While PSG has made mistakes in the transfer market, Mbappe’s behavior has also contributed to the divisive atmosphere at the club.

Leonardo further remarked that Mbappe, despite his exceptional talent, is not yet a leader capable of guiding a team.

The player’s constant public airing of grievances and flirtations with a move to Real Madrid have only added to the instability at PSG. Even Jerome Rothen, who often defended Mbappe’s on-field performances, acknowledged that his perfectionist nature and outspokenness could create problems within a team.

As Mbappe’s contract expiration looms, PSG’s president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has decided that unless the forward signs a contract extension, he will be sold this summer.

Losing the world’s most valuable player on a free transfer next year is an unthinkable outcome for the club. PSG’s desire to be taken seriously as a top club necessitates putting an end to this prolonged power struggle.

The ongoing drama surrounding Mbappe has overshadowed important club events, including the unveiling of new coach Luis Enrique.

Paolo Di Canio, a former footballer and pundit, criticized both PSG’s mishandling of the situation and Mbappe’s indecent behavior, highlighting the urgency for the club to resolve the matter swiftly.

As the summer transfer window progresses, the football world eagerly awaits the resolution of Kylian Mbappe’s future.

PSG finds itself at a crossroads, needing to determine whether to continue accommodating the forward’s demands or cut ties with the player they helped create.

The soap opera that has gripped Paris Saint-Germain must finally come to an end, allowing the club to move forward without the Mbappe-shaped distraction that has plagued them for far too long.
