PSG Includes Achraf Hakimi In UCL Squad Despite Rape Charges

Paris Saint-Germain have included Achraf Hakimi in their squad to face Bayern Munich in the Champions League, despite the player being charged for an alleged rape.

The prosecutor’s office announced last week that they had formally charged the defender after an incident at his home in Paris on February 25. However, PSG has added Hakimi to their squad for their crucial Champions League clash with Bayern Munich.

The club has not indicated if Achraf Hakimi will start, although he participated fully in team training on Monday. He did not take part in PSG’s clash with Nantes on Saturday, but he was pictured in the stands. He also attended FIFA’s The Best awards ceremony on the same day the investigation was revealed.

The right-back is legally permitted to leave French territory and can play in Wednesday’s match in Munich despite being under investigation. However, he cannot make contact with the victim.

PSG trail Bayern Munich 1-0 on aggregate, and they will need to win at the Allianz Arena to advance to the quarterfinals of this year’s Champions League.

Despite the ongoing investigation, Hakimi’s inclusion in the squad may come as a surprise to some, especially given the serious nature of the allegations. The club has not made any public statement regarding the matter, and it remains unclear if Hakimi will face any consequences if found guilty.

Achraf Hakimi, who joined PSG from Inter Milan in the summer of 2021, has been an important player for the French side this season, making 32 appearances in all competitions. The 23-year-old is considered to be one of the most promising young defenders in world football and has attracted interest from several top European clubs.
