Protest rocks Ondo, as Students air their frustrations
The on going national strike actions embarked by Tertiary academic unions in Nigeria has left Nigerian students frustrated with the system and the inability of major parties involved in negotiations to come up with a mutual agreement that favors all.
In that respect, students of different Universities in Ondo state have carried out protests as they go on to block the Ilesha/Akure road in protest of the prolonged strike.
The protesting students were drawn from the respective schools of Federal University of Technology, Akure, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, and the Olusegun Agagu University of Technology, Okitipupa.
The reports said the aggrieved students closed down the road to vent their anger over their continued stay at home as a result of the prolonged industrial action by the striking lecturers.
ASUU has been on strike since February 14, 2022, and negotiations between the government and the union have mostly fallen towards political speeches being given without a resolution being looked forward to.
The latest negotiations took place recently with the government revealing an agreement has reached with the unions, which was later denied by the union sooner.
It remains to be seen if actions will lead to a mutual consensus to end the strike or if politics will keep being played by influential parties.
