Residents of Uso Community in Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State took to the streets on Friday to protest the kidnapping of two community members by bandits.
According to reports, the victims were kidnapped along the Akure-Owo Expressway and taken into the forest. While three persons were initially abducted, one managed to escape.
The kidnapping incident prompted the community’s youths to stage a protest along the expressway.
The protesters blocked the busy expressway, causing traffic gridlock for several hours. Despite efforts by the police to placate them, the protesters insisted on barricading the expressway.
However, the police were able to successfully disperse the protesters.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Ondo Police Command, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident and said that the Command had swung into action to ensure the victims were rescued.
Odunlami assured that the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Ondo Police Command was on the trail of the bandits to ensure the safe rescue of the victims.
The PPRO said, “Our men of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad have been on the trail of the bandits to ensure the victims were rescued. ”
She also stated that normalcy had returned to the area, and the expressway had been cleared for free flow of vehicles.
In other news, In a surprising turn of events, the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has vacated the tribunal judgement that nullified the election of Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State.
The appeal was lodged by Adeleke to challenge his sack by the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal. The appellate court, in a unanimous decision by a three-member panel of Justices, held that the appeal was meritorious.
This ruling is a significant victory for Adeleke and his supporters, who have been fighting to overturn the tribunal’s decision. Justice Mohammed Lawal delivered the lead judgment, setting aside the judgement of the tribunal and awarding N500,000 cost against the All Progressive Congress (APC) and its candidate, Gboyega Oyetola.
