President Tinubu signs regional development commission bill

President Bola Tinubu has signed the Regional Development Commission bill to enable fast development across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones.

The announcement was made in a statement by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, on Wednesday in Abuja.

The newly signed bills establish the North-West Development Commission and the South-East Development Commission. The North-West Development Commission (Establishment) Bill, 2024, and the South-East Development Commission (Establishment) Bill, 2023, are designed to address specific regional challenges.

The North-West Development Commission will focus on reconstructing roads, houses, and business premises damaged by various crises. It will also address poverty, literacy levels, ecological issues, and other related development challenges in the North-West states.

Similarly, the South-East Development Commission is tasked with the reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads, houses, and other infrastructure damaged in the region. It will also tackle ecological problems and other related environmental or developmental issues in South-East states.

President Tinubu emphasized his commitment to fairness, equity, and unity across the nation. The statement highlighted his dedication to ensuring equitable development, inclusive governance, and high-quality services for all Nigerians, regardless of their location, thereby strengthening national unity.
