President Tinubu set to address Nigerians on Monday
The nation eagerly anticipates the momentous occasion of 2023 Democracy Day, as President Bola Tinubu, the newly inaugurated leader, prepares to deliver a resounding address to the Nigerian people.
Scheduled for Monday, June 12, 2023, at the early hour of 7 am, this highly anticipated event will serve as President Tinubu‘s first official nationwide broadcast since assuming office on May 29, 2023.
In an official statement released on Sunday, the Director of Information at the State House, Abiodun Oladunjoye, urged television, radio stations, and other electronic media outlets to establish a connection with the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority and Radio Nigeria. The goal is to ensure a live and uninterrupted broadcast that will allow every citizen to partake in this historic moment.
Adding to the significance of this day, the Federal Government, through a press conference led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, announced a subdued celebration for the 2023 June 12 Democracy Day. The decision to scale back the festivities comes in light of the recent grandeur of the presidential inauguration held on May 29. It is a conscious effort to maintain a balanced approach while honoring the heroes and heroines who have tirelessly fought for democracy in Nigeria since 1999.
Shedding light on the shift in the date of Democracy Day, the SGF explained that it has been moved from its original date of May 29 to June 12 to symbolize a tribute to the nation’s democracy warriors. With the elaborate events surrounding the recent inauguration, Akume emphasized that the upcoming June 12 Democracy Day will be marked by two pivotal activities: the press conference and the much-awaited presidential broadcast at 7 am on Monday.
As the nation gears up for this milestone celebration, the SGF emphasized the significance of reflection. It is a time to ponder on the strides Nigeria has made, the remarkable fruits of democracy, and the areas that demand urgent attention and improvement. This year’s anniversary serves as a poignant reminder of the nation’s journey and a call to action to ensure that the principles of democracy continue to thrive and benefit every Nigerian citizen.
