President Tinubu proposes new salaries, allowances for judicial office holders
President Bola Tinubu has submitted a proposal to the Senate regarding the salaries and allowances for judicial office holders across Nigeria.
The letter, addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpiabio and read during Wednesday’s plenary session, outlines the details of the proposed bill.
The proposal titled the “Judicial Office Holders Salaries and Allowances Bill, 2024,” aims to address the longstanding issue of stagnant remuneration for judicial officials.
Tinubu emphasized the need for updated compensation packages that reflect contemporary socioeconomic realities.
In his communication to the Senate, Tinubu underscored the importance of establishing a new legal framework to enhance the welfare, capacity, and independence of the judiciary. He expressed hope for the bill’s expeditious consideration and passage, emphasizing its potential to bring significant improvements to the judiciary’s functioning.
Tinubu concluded the letter by extending his highest regards to the Senate President and distinguished senators, urging them to carefully review and deliberate on the proposed bill.
