Referees for 2024/25 Premier League opening weekend revealed
The 2024/2025 Premier League season gears up for an exciting start, and who better to set the stage for the season than the infamous EPL referees who have been in recent times known to bring half the excitement to the field of play?
The referees for the opening weekend have been appointed, setting the stage for some high-stakes encounters, drama and controversy. The action begins on Friday night with Manchester United hosting Fulham at Old Trafford, where Robert Jones will take charge, backed by VAR support from Jarred Gillett.

However, all eyes will be on Sunday’s marquee clash at Stamford Bridge, where Anthony Taylor has been assigned to referee the high-octane fixture between Chelsea and reigning champions Manchester City. Taylor, a familiar face in EPL officiating, will be under the spotlight as two title contenders battle it out in what promises to be the match of the weekend.
Other notable appointments include Tim Robinson officiating Liverpool’s visit to newly promoted Ipswich in Saturday’s early kick-off, and Jarred Gillett overseeing Arsenal’s home fixture against Wolves, supported by Paul Tierney as VAR.
