Premier League referee offered a way out of Liverpool ‘mess’
Premier League referee David Coote’s career has taken a dramatic turn following his suspension by the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) after leaked footage allegedly captured him making derogatory remarks about Liverpool and former manager Jurgen Klopp.
The video, where a man purported to be Coote is heard calling Liverpool “s***” and Klopp an “absolute c***,” has ignited a storm, with the PGMOL launching a full investigation and suspending Coote indefinitely.

Caught in the Act: Premier League Referee under investigation
In the scandalous clips, Coote reportedly recounts his encounters with Klopp, accusing the ex-Liverpool boss of arrogance and hostility, especially during a fiery lockdown-era match against Burnley. “I’ve got no interest in speaking to somebody who’s f***ing arrogant,” he allegedly said, before praising James Milner as an exception.
Now, with his Premier League future in jeopardy, Coote may be eyeing an unexpected career revival in Saudi Arabia. According to the Daily Mail, Saudi Arabian clubs could offer Coote a lucrative lifeline should his position in England become untenable.
The move wouldn’t be without precedent; fellow referee Michael Oliver recently earned a sizeable paycheck officiating a marquee matchup between Saudi giants Al Nassr and Al Hilal.
As PGMOL’s investigation unfolds and pressure mounts, the chance for Coote to rebuild his career abroad offers an intriguing path forward.
Could the allure of Saudi Arabia’s emerging football scene be too tempting to resist if Coote gets the “red card” from the Premier League?
Fans and insiders alike are left wondering if the former Premier League referee’s next chapter lies in the Middle East.
