Premier League Predictions for the Opening weekend

After a two-month hiatus, the Premier League is finally back tonight on our TV screens, renewing hostilities once more for the 2024/25 season, and so does our predictions for the weekend.

Kick-off starts tonight with Manchester United hosting Fulham at a reinvented Old Trafford.

After a terrible 2023/24 campaign for the Red Devils, Erik ten Hag has enough room to correct last season’s mistake starting with this fixture against the visiting Cottagers. But will their meeting be an easy affair for both sides? It certainly wouldn’t be easy for Fulham but for Manchester United, there is a lot to fight for on opening night, especially in front of their home fans.

We predict this tie to go in favor of the Red Devils for a presumably 2-0 win; confidence renewed from their 1-1 draw in the Community Shield.

On Saturday, the premier league games begin proper, with Liverpool resuming their 12:30 pm affair but this time against newly promoted side, Ipswich Town who themselves have an incredible story leading to their promotion into the premier league. In our premier league predictions, we foresee Arne Slot’s Reds having a difficult afternoon, however, we predict a 2-1 away win for Liverpool.

Following that is Arsenal resuming hostilities at the Emirates versus Wolverhampton Wanderers. For the fact this game takes place at Arsenal’s own turf, we don’t see Gary O’Neil’s side having anything from this game. We predict the Gunners having a 3-0 rout to kickstart their premier league campaign.

Everton versus Brighton and Hove Albion is sure to give us another opening weekend cracker but the Toffees in our predictions, will have the home advantage against the Seagulls in a dramatic 3-2 or 2-1 win.

Newcastle United versus Southampton is going to be a cruel welcome to the premier league for the Saints, and the Magpies will have no trouble stealing a 4-0 win at home.

Nottingham Forest versus Bournemouth, stands a tricky game for the visiting Cherries who have lost their key man, Dominic Solanke to Tottenham Hotspur. Nuno Espirito Santo’s Forest side have an opportunity to start their premier league campaign much differently from last season’s, hence in our predictions we see Bournemouth taking the solace of a 1-0 defeat.

West Ham United versus Aston Villa is another cracker waiting to happen on opening weekend. Despite Unai Emery’s side proving themselves last season, the Hammers have something new to prove with a new manager. We predict a 3-3 draw to liven the weekend.

Then comes Sunday the 18th of August with Brentford taking on Crystal Palace. We predict this Sunday afternoon kickoff to start happier times for Crystal Palace in a 2-4 win away.

Chelsea versus Manchester City is the game of the opening weekend, and the one every premier league fan is looking forward to, hence in our predictions, we see a lot of narratives going down. We don’t think there is going to be a loser and if there is a loser, it is not going to be Enzo Maresca’s side. We predict a 2-2 tensely contested draw between pupil and master.

The opening weekend fixtures come to a conclusion on Monday night with Leicester City taking on Tottenham Hotspur. We predict a 0-3 win for Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs team. Despite having a disappointing end to the 2023/24 campaign, Tottenham Hotspur should not be written off just yet this season.
