Premier League predictions for Matchday 14

With the Premier League table coming into shape, the next phase of the English league season kicks on heading into the new year.

It starts with matchday 19 setting the narratives on Sunday afternoon as Leicester City hosts current Premier League champions Manchester City at the King’s Power Stadium.

Premier League predictions for Matchday 18 Fixtures

Judging from current form of Pep Guardiola’s City team, punters will have lots of hesitation staking this game in their betting odds. And rightly so, they should. Leicester City currently sits in the bottom 3 of the Premier League, desperate for points after losing back-to-back fixtures to both Liverpool, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle United. A defeat is surely something the Foxes cannot afford at this point, and with Manchester City low on confidence, a fourth consecutive defeat will be catastrophic for Ruud van Nistelrooy’s current stint as Leicester boss. We predict a 2-2 draw between both teams, which of course sits at the detriment to Pep Guardiola.

Crystal Palace versus Southampton follows 30-minutes into Manchester City’s tie versus Leicester, and though the fixture may go under the radar, Southampton’s aspirations to keep their premier league hopes alive won’t go under the radar. We predict a shock 1-2 defeat for Palace.

Nottingham Forest has gone on an impressive 4-game winning streak in the Premier League so far, hence their trip to Goodison Park to face Everton will be an interesting one. Can they continue their run of form?

Currently, the Toffees have proven themselves a bane to in-form/big teams in the league. Thus, we think this fixture will go the same routes as Everton’s games versus Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City; a draw. We predict a 1-1 draw for both sides.

Fulham versus Bournemouth will certainly be of interest considering both teams’ ideology for attacking football.

A few days back, the Cottagers stunned their neighbors Chelsea with a comeback 2-1 win in the closing stages of the game to claim vital points from Stamford Bridge. Bournemouth credit to them, dispatched Manchester United on their home turf thanks to a 0-3 win only to follow that up with a 0-0 draw to Crystal Palace days after. This tie appears more open than it is on paper. We predict a 2-3 win for AFC Bournemouth however.

Tottenham Hotspur versus Wolverhampton Wanderers is surely one game Ange Postecoglou cannot risk losing after falling to back-to-back defeats recently as Spurs boss. For Wolves, it will be a dream run for their new manager to take points off their opponent in consecutive Premier League games. It is possible, however we think Tottenham Hotspur will keep things closely nit for a 2-0 win.

West Ham United will have a game on their hands with Liverpool paying a visit to the capital. In 4-consecutive games now, the Hammers are unbeaten, which makes the fixture versus Liverpool their first real test since December. The Reds though should be wary as well as games like this stand the proverbial banana peel.

For us, we are wary with our prediction as we view this game as a potential slip for Liverpool in a 2-2 draw that could set other narratives for the Reds.

Monday 30th December closes the December Premier League fixtures. It brings us some interesting fixtures such as;

Aston Villa versus Brighton and Hove Albion at 8.45pm (WAT). This looks like a tie Unai Emery will be waiting for after their 3-0 humbling by Newcastle United. We predict a 2-1 win for Aston Villa.

Ipswich Town taking on Chelsea few days after a narrow 1-0 loss to Arsenal. With the Blues suffering a 2-1 loss themselves, it is either a boost in confidence for the Tractor Boys or an incentive for Chelsea to go rogue against their hosts.

We predict a 1-4 statement win for the West London visitors.

Manchester United taking on Newcastle United has created a huge narrative since the Red Devils suffered back-to-back defeats to Wolves and Bournemouth. However, we believe Newcastle will suffer a 2-0 loss at Old Trafford.

The 1st of January welcomes Premier League fans to a mini-London derby that sets Brentford up against title contending Arsenal.

Judging from Brentford’s capacity to provide shocks in the league so far, the Bees taking on Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal should be a concern for the Gunners. We predict a 2-2 draw between both teams.
