Port Harcourt refinery begins crude oil processing at 60% capacity

The Port Harcourt Refinery, owned by Nigeria, has officially commenced crude oil processing, marking a significant milestone for the country’s energy sector.

This development was confirmed on Tuesday by Olufemi Soneye, spokesperson for the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

According to Soneye, Port Harcourt refinery has begun operations at 60 percent capacity, currently processing 60,000 barrels of crude oil per day. The facility has a total capacity of 250,000 barrels per day, which it aims to achieve in subsequent phases.

This progress comes after multiple delays in the refinery’s operational timeline, underscoring the challenges faced in revamping Nigeria’s aging refineries.
