Police nab 61 suspected criminals in Nasarawa State
The Police Command in Nasarawa State says it has apprehended 61 suspected criminals for several offences in the state.
Parading the suspects at the Command head office on Friday in Lafia, the Commissioner of Police, Bola Longe, disclosed that the criminals had been terrorising citizens of the state until the police arrested them.
Longe said the suspects arrested were involved in assassination, armed robbery, vandalism, among other crimes.
He stated, “We raised a formidable team of detectives and operational personnel as a proactive step to prevent them from actualising their aim and in the process, we got them arrested.”
The Commissioner of Police also paraded some suspected miscreants who had been in the business of buying and selling railway tracks in the state.
Longe lauded the Anti-kidnapping Unit of the Police Command led by CSP Anietie Eyoh for being able to apprehend the criminal elements that had been destroying the railway items and stated that plans are being made to charge the suspects to court.
He said, “While working on credible intelligence, the Anti-kidnapping unit of the command was able to intercept one Citroen J5 Bus, with recently vandalised railway tracks at Agyaragu, Obi Local Government Area.
“On sighting the police, the occupants of the vehicle abandoned it and escaped to an unknown destination. So, we took the vehicle to the State CID and investigation is still ongoing.”
The CP said apart from the suspects arrested, the Command also recovered some items which include seven firearms, seven rounds of live ammunition, four vehicles, three laptops, one motorcycle, 17 handsets, among other things.
