A police sergeant in Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria  identified as Olalere Michael, allegedly shot his girlfriend, Tosin, multiple times on the premises of a private school before taking his own life.

According to reports, the couple had a misunderstanding that escalated into a physical altercation, and the police sergeant attempted to attack Tosin with a cutlass.

Tosin fled, but the police sergeant caught up with her at the school where she had brought her daughter.

He shot her three times in the chest with an AK-47 rifle before turning the gun on himself and committing suicide.

The incident has been described as a case of love gone sour, and the police have stated that it has nothing to do with police brutality.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Okasanmi Ajayi, confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are ongoing.

This tragic incident highlights the need to address the issue of domestic violence in Nigeria and provide support to victims of such violence.

It is also a reminder of the importance of mental health support for police officers and the need to ensure that they receive the necessary training and support to manage their emotions and mental well-being.
