Police inspector murders five, injures four in Enugu lotto office

Police Command in Enugu State on Sunday stated that it had apprehended a police inspector who allegedly murdered five people, while leaving four others critically wounded.

It was learnt that the police inspector attached to Special Protection Unit Base 9, Umuahia, Abia State, started shooting people at a lotto office to play Sunday morning. He was said to have shot five people.

A statement was issued by the spokesman of the Command, Daniel Ndukwe, entitled, “Shooting incident at Golf Estate Enugu: CP Aliyu orders thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.”

It partly read, “The Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Ndatsu Aliyu, has ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, to carry out a thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the shooting incident that occurred today, June 20, 2021 around 9.30 in the Golf Estate area of Enugu, involving a police inspector attached to Special Protection Unit, Base 9, Umuahia, Abia State and said to be on duty at RC Lotto Company located in the Estate.

“He has been arrested and taken into custody pending the conclusion of investigation.”

Ndukwe declared that the Commissioner called on citizens, friends of the deceased persons to stay calm and cooperate with the Command in the ongoing investigation.

In the meantime, Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has paid a visit to the victims at ESUT Teaching Hospital Parklane, Enugu, where they are receiving treatment.

A statement by the Governor’s special assistant on media, Mr Louis Amoke, stated that Governor Ugwuanyi said that his government would pay all the medical expenses.
