A police officer attached to the Ogun State Police Command shot a motorist identified as Akorede in Ijebu Ode.

It was gathered that the victim was driving on Wednesday when some policemen in Oru, in the Ijebu Ode area of the state, stopped him. The officers were said to be searching his vehicle when one of them suddenly brought out a gun and shot him in the leg.

An eye witness identified as Dammy, using his Twitter handle @eyebee247, claimed that Akorede did nothing to warrant the attack.

Police brutality is still ongoing. This happened during a stop and search in Odogbolu, Ijebu Ode, yesterday, 13th October, 2021. The victim, Akorede, was stopped and suddenly this police officer brought out his gun and shot him without provocation,” he tweeted.

A video clip attached to the post showed the victim crying in pain while sitting in a red car, as blood dripped from his leg.

In another video clip, Dammy could be heard calling for help.

“Akorede has been shot; the police have shot Akorede. Akorede has been shot, help us please,” he said while recording the incident.

The policeman who allegedly perpetrated the crime was also seen sitting on the ground.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the policemen involved in the incident had been arrested, adding that investigation into the case was ongoing.

He said, “The incident happened in Oru, Ijebu, and the policeman in question has been arrested and is being investigated. The policemen were on official duty when the incident happened, and the reason we are investigating the policeman in question is to know the reason he did that. The victim has been taken to a hospital and has been responding to treatment.”
