Police Arrest Suspect Four years After Killing Nigerian Man In India

A 28-year-old suspect has been detained in India in connection with the murder of a 35-year-old Nigerian man in Nalasopara, Mumbai, four years ago.

Kancha, the accused, was discovered residing in the same town under a false identity, a criminal branch officer told the media on Tuesday, October 17, 2023.

The arrest of Kancha alias Roshan Bechain Mandal alias Ashfaq Mohammad Sheikh brings the total number of arrested persons in the crime to two, with two others on the run.

On October 16, 2019, the body of Joseph alias Chindiniju Amechi Wilson was discovered on a road in the Pragati Nagar area of Nalasopara.

Other Nigerians in the area went on the rampage, trashing parked vehicles and demanding the killers’ arrest.

During the inquiry, police detained Nasir Khan and four other men for their claimed roles in the crime. According to a Vasai criminal branch (unit II) official, a charge sheet was filed against him in court.

The accused, Kancha alias Roshan Mandal, was caught at an apartment in Achole Road, Nalasopara (east) after police received information that he had moved to Bengaluru six months after committing the crime and was currently living in Nalasopara under a false name.

He returned to Nalasopara a few months ago, according to the police, and changed his name to Ashfaq Sheikh. He also altered his physical look.
