PMAN treasurer disassociates from Ex-NWC amid leadership crisis
The ongoing leadership crisis within the Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has taken a new turn as the association’s National Treasurer, Mr. Baba Ojonugwa (J.F.O), formally distanced himself from the actions of former National Working Committee (NWC) members.
In a letter dated September 6, 2024, Ojonugwa revealed that his signature had been fraudulently used in communications and press releases by the ex-NWC members without his consent.
Ojonugwa named several ex-NWC members, including Mr. Sunny Neji, Mr. Zaaki Azzay, Mr. Stephen Michael (Ruggedman), Mr. Boniface Itodo, and Mr. Faga Bem Paul, as being involved in the unauthorized use of his name. Despite multiple warnings, the ex-NWC members continued to issue statements in his name, further escalating tensions within the union.

The Treasurer’s disassociation could have significant legal consequences, particularly in the ongoing lawsuit filed by the ex-NWC members against PMAN’s current leadership. With his withdrawal, the ex-NWC now lacks the quorum required under Article 12 (G) of the PMAN Constitution to legally convene meetings or make decisions on behalf of the association.
In his letter, Ojonugwa made it clear that he had never authorized the use of his digital signature and condemned the confusion caused by the ex-NWC’s actions. He reaffirmed his commitment to PMAN’s Constitution and urged the former committee members to cease using his name in any further correspondence. He warned that any future documents bearing his signature without approval would be deemed unauthorized.
As the crisis intensifies, PMAN’s National Executive Council (NEC) is expected to respond swiftly, potentially seeking legal avenues to remove the association’s name from the ex-NWC’s lawsuit. Ojonugwa’s move may strengthen the current leadership’s position, as the ex-NWC’s ability to represent PMAN is now in serious doubt.
With the National Treasurer’s disassociation, the NEC is poised to take steps to restore order within the union, ensuring PMAN’s future stability. All eyes are now on the NEC and its legal team as they work to resolve the ongoing conflict and protect the interests of PMAN’s members.
