Plateau state unrest: Youths burn farmer’s property after alleged killing

In a disturbing turn of events, angry youths in the Angwa Rukuba-Etoo Baba community of Plateau State’s Jos area set a farmer’s house ablaze on Tuesday morning.

This violent act followed the alleged killing of a security guard reportedly working for the farmer.

According to Mrs. Janet Haruna, a resident of the community, the situation necessitates urgent assistance.

The enraged youths not only burned down the farmer’s house but also looted his poultry farm before setting it ablaze.

The unrest stemmed from accusations against the farmer’s son, who was suspected of killing the security guard over alleged theft of eggs from the poultry farm.

Subsequently, the youths targeted the family’s residence, resulting in the fiery destruction witnessed.

The security guard’s body has been evacuated to the hospital. Responding swiftly, the state fire service arrived to contain the blaze and prevent further damage.

Security operatives have been deployed to maintain order and prevent any escalation of violence.

When reached for comment, the spokesman for the state police command, Alabo Alfred, directed inquiries to the Divisional Police Officer overseeing the area, who is actively engaged in managing the situation.
