Plateau State imposes 24-hour curfew on Jos-Bukuru metropolis

The Plateau State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew on the Jos-Bukuru Metropolis following a breakdown of law and order in the area.

The decision, effective from midnight on Sunday, August 4, 2024, aims to enhance the security of lives and maintain public order.

In a statement signed by Mr. Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public Affairs to Governor Caleb Mutfwang, the government explained that the move was necessary to curb the activities of individuals exploiting the nationwide protests to unleash terror on innocent citizens.

Governor Mutfwang, after consultations with state security agencies, decided on the curfew in response to the actions of criminal elements armed with dangerous weapons who looted shops and restaurants along Bauchi Road and Zololo Junction in Jos North Local Government Area.

“The curfew is in the best interest of all citizens,” Bere stated, urging full compliance to ensure the safety and well-being of residents. The governor directed security agencies to ensure total enforcement of the curfew and warned those planning further violence to desist or face the full wrath of the law.

Governor Mutfwang also called on security agencies to remain vigilant and proactive in preventing any disruptions to law and order. He expressed gratitude to the citizens of Plateau State, particularly the clergy, for their unwavering support of the government’s policies and their cooperation during the nationwide protests.

“The peaceful conduct of our people before, during, and after the nationwide protest is commendable,” the governor said, urging continued commitment to peace and unity as the state works towards progress.
