PGMOL exposes controversial VAR audio on Liverpool (Watch)
After Liverpool demanded the release of the audio recording on the controversial VAR ruling for Luis Diaz’s chalked off goal versus Tottenham Hotspur, the PGMOL had no other alternative but to cave in and make public the audio for fans to listen to.
The audio release has attracted a host of criticisms upon its release, with the football world slamming the Video Assistant Referee and its Assistant, whose voices could be heard deliberating on whether to stop the game before its restart.
The conversations showed there were some technical misunderstanding between the VAR team and the on-pitch official officiating the game.
The audio began with Luis Diaz’s goal being checked by the VAR team for an offside call, but in the aftermath, the calls from the VAR room were different from the call made by the referee, Simon Hooper who supposedly misunderstood the communications from the VAR team.
The conversation gathered from the audio goes as thus;
VAR: “Check complete, check complete. That’s fine, perfect,” says the VAR.
The goal is then confirmed as offside with the referee saying,
“Well done boys, good process.” However, it then becomes clear that a huge mistake has been made:
Replay operator: Wait, wait, wait, wait, The on-field decision was offside. Are you happy with this?
Assistant VAR: Yeah. Offside. Goal. Yeah. That’s wrong Daz.
Replay operator: The on-field decision was offside. Are you happy with this image.
VAR: What?
Replay operator: Yeah. The image that we gave them is onside.
Assistant VAR: He’s played him, he’s gone offside.
VAR: Oh (expletive)!
Replay Operator: “Delay, delay. Oli (PGMOL Hub Ops) is saying to delay. Oli is saying to delay.”
VAR: “Pardon?”
Replay Operator: “Oli is calling in to say delay the game. The decision is onside.”
VAR: “Can’t do anything.”
Replay Operator: “Oli is saying to delay. Oli is saying to delay.”
VAR: “Oli?”
Fourth official: “Yeah.”
Replay Operator: “Delay the game, stop the game.”
VAR: “They’ve restarted the game. Can’t do anything, can’t do anything.”
Assistant VAR: “Yeah, they’ve restarted. Yeah.”
VAR: “I can’t do anything. I can’t do anything.”
