“People want Manchester City to fail” — Guardiola laments
The mind games tactician returns, and what a way to set the narratives going on Manchester City than to highlight the hate his team faces from opposition teams.
Pep Guardiola returns with his sarcastic digs in the latest pre-match press conference following his triumph in the Club World Cup, and ahead of the premier league tie against Everton at Goodison Park, the Spaniard claims an agenda is aimed at his team.
City’s dominant 4-0 victory over Fluminense in the Club World Cup final added another illustrious title to their cabinet, complementing their victories in the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, and European Super Cup in 2023.
While basking in their unprecedented accomplishment, Guardiola reflected on his previous managerial feat at Barcelona in 2009 when his side secured an astonishing sextuple, clinching La Liga, Copa del Rey, Spanish Super Cup, European Super Cup, Champions League, and Club World Cup titles.
Speaking candidly about the current climate, Guardiola stated,
“As much as you win, they want you to fail. More than ever. I felt this when we won the sextuple in Barcelona. It’s normal. There’s a desire for us not to succeed.”
Highlighting the dichotomy between praise for the team’s style of play and the underlying desire for their downfall, Guardiola expressed,
“In these 14-15 years, what we have won, the titles, is unbelievable. People acknowledge our style and label it ‘genius,’ but the credit often solely revolves around winning. They don’t delve deeper.”
