Hon-Chima

The Peoples Democratic Party in Imo State has raised an alarm over the continued attempts to assassinate Hon. Uju Kingsley Chima, a member of the House of Representatives, who is also the PDP candidate for Ohaji-Egbema, Oguta and Oru West federal constituency in the current elections.

According to the Publicity Secretary of PDP in Imo State, Collins Opurozor, Chima has escaped assassination twice in the last three days, including on Friday night.

In his statement, Opurozor said that state-sanctioned terrorists stormed the arena where Chima was wrapping up his campaigns at Umuapu in Ohaji-Egbema and unleashed mayhem on their candidate. He added that on Friday night, the country home of Chima at Umuorji in Egbema was invaded by truckloads of armed men who took over his residence, cordoned off the entire area, and searched desperately for the candidate to murder.

“Till this moment, the attacks are yet to abate, as an armoured tank is still stationed in front of his residence and the terrorists are still operating unhindered. This is happening in Imo state on election day!” he said.

Opurozor accused the Imo State government of being involved in the attacks on Chima, citing the previous attempts by the APC-led regime to frame Chima over some very dangerous criminal acts. He called on President Muhammadu Buhari to wade into the matter and tame the gangsterism of Senator Hope Uzodinma and his henchmen.

In response to the incident, the Imo State Police Command has deployed more personnel to ensure the safety of voters and polling centres during the elections. However, it is essential to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.

The safety of candidates, their families, and supporters is of utmost importance, and it is imperative that the authorities take swift action to ensure that the elections are peaceful and fair.

It is a sad reality that in Nigeria, violence and thuggery have become commonplace during elections. However, it is essential to remember that violence only leads to more violence and chaos, and the best way to ensure that democracy thrives is through peaceful and fair elections.

As Nigerians, we must come together to denounce violence and thuggery during elections and hold our leaders accountable for ensuring that the electoral process is transparent and peaceful. Let us hope that the authorities take swift action to ensure that the ongoing attacks in Imo State do not escalate further and that the elections are conducted peacefully and fairly.
