Paul Scholes Reveals Player Who Shouldn't Be In Man United

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has stated that midfielder Wout Weghorst does not have the quality required to play for the Red Devils following their devastating 7-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday.

Weghorst was signed on loan by Man United in the January transfer window, but has only managed to score one goal in 14 appearances for the club. Against Liverpool, the Netherlands international played in the No.10 role but was unable to make an impact and was substituted in the 58th minute.

Speaking to Premier League Productions, Scholes suggested that Weghorst was brought into the team for his defensive abilities rather than his attacking prowess.

“You are talking about a Manchester United No.10 or a centre-forward,” he said. “He is in the team to be defensive. He’s the one who runs about and rats about and everybody likes playing with him because he does that.”

However, Scholes also highlighted that playing for a club like Manchester United requires a certain level of quality that Weghorst may not possess. “But quality-wise as well, you have got to have a certain level of quality to play for Man United… it is not there,” he added.

It remains to be seen what Weghorst’s future holds beyond this season, as his loan deal with Man United will expire at the end of the campaign. While he has struggled to make an impact at Old Trafford so far, the 29-year-old has shown his quality in the past, scoring 47 goals in 87 appearances for his former club Wolfsburg.

Man United will be hoping to bounce back from their crushing defeat to Liverpool when they face Real Betis in their next  fixture on Thursday in the Europa League.
