Patrick Holland Finally Receives His Heart Transplant
Alaska man Patrick Holland, who missed his first chance at a heart transplant due to winter weather disrupting his travel, has finally received a heart transplant.
Holland temporarily relocated to Seattle, Washington, to be available at a moment’s notice and stayed with a family who heard his story on the news.
In the passing months, a few hearts became available for Holland, but none of them were viable until the fifth call came last week, alerting him to a potential transplant.
Following the successful surgery, Holland is recovering at the University of Washington Medical Center with a heart transplant from the donor dubbed “Andrew” by his wife, Haley Holland.
Although the surgery was successful, Holland’s recovery is just beginning, and his wife has set up a GoFundMe to support the family’s expenses following the surgery.
As her husband recovers, Haley Holland’s thoughts have also been with his heart donor, saying, “Someone had to make an enormous sacrifice in order for this miracle to happen.”
