Paris Olympics: "We won't fail Nigerians" -- Minister of Sports

In anticipation of the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics slated for July 26 to August 11, the Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh, has pledged to ensure the prompt release of funds to prepare Nigerian athletes for the prestigious event.

Speaking from Abuja, Enoh, through his Special Assistant on Media, Diana-Mary Nsan, assured stakeholders of the ministry’s commitment to providing financial support in a timely manner.

He emphasized the importance of adequate funding in adequately preparing athletes for the global stage.

Furthermore, Enoh revealed plans to forge partnerships with private individuals and corporate entities to bolster financial backing for the athletes. This collaborative effort aims to enhance support systems and ensure athletes are well-equipped for success in the Paris Olympics.

In a proactive move towards athlete welfare, the ministry is set to introduce insurance coverage for Team Nigeria athletes. This measure seeks to mitigate risks associated with injuries and unforeseen circumstances, demonstrating a keen focus on the well-being of athletes.

Additionally, Enoh announced intentions to implement salaries for grade A athletes, expressing confidence in Nigeria’s sporting talent and their potential to excel at the Paris Olympic Games.

Notably, the Paris 2024 Olympics will mark a significant milestone as the first Games to feature an equal number of male and female athletes, highlighting a commitment to gender equality in sports on the global stage.
