Paris Olympics: Super Falcons crumble to Brazil

A cruel game for the Super Falcons of Nigeria at the Paris 2024 Olympics as they crumble to Brazil in the opening group stages of the tournament.

The Nigeria Women team held their own against the Brazilians only to be undone by a first half opener by Gabi Nunes in the 37th minute to doom the Super Falcons with a 1-0 defeat.

The West African side are left reeling from the defeat despite putting up a show against the South American women with only the finer details separating Team Nigeria from getting a result from the game.

Nigeria started the tie without the presence of Ifeoma Onumonu, Asisat Oshoala, Uchenna Kanu, Esther Okoronkwo starting on the bench, with Oshoala not given any cameo by coach Randy Waldrum.

Former Super Eagles head coach was present to watch the Super Falcons play versus Brazil.

With 4-shots on target against the Canarinhas, Falcons goal keeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie needed to be called to action more times than one to keep the score line decent as Brazil replied with 6-shots against Nigeria with 1 making it past Nnadozie to gift the Canarinhas the advantage.

The Nigerian women will hope to gain qualification into the next stages if they can manage to salvage big points in their remaining fixtures versus Spain and Japan, an already daunting task made difficult with the 1-0 defeat to Brazil.

That said, glory can only be gained in the most impossible situations. Right now, the Paris Olympics stands a very daunting position to be in for the Nigeria Super Falcons. Will they achieve their goal? That remains to be seen against Spain and Japan.
